  • (1888PressRelease) March 20, 2012 - No fewer than 80 contestants contested for the Azimuth Singapore National Day Watch contest in 2011. It was dramatic and energetic to see the youth of Singapore soaring up to express their patriotism through a watch design that captures and encapsulates the Singapore values and its significance to them.

This year, Azimuth again revives the same wave of emotion by presenting the 2012 National Day watch contest. Azimuth invites general public and especially tertiary students at the design schools in Singapore to participate and design a watch, which captures the essence of Singapore in a timepiece. In collaboration with DesignSingapore Council, Azimuth is urging all young designers to draw inspiration from our country to come up with fun, quirky and unconventional designs that reflect Singapore in its own unique way.

Azimuth Watch Company, being Singapore's ONLY homegrown luxury timepiece retailer, places strong emphasis on the make and design of their watches, and are known for and loved by the young and trendy for their interesting and quirky designs, which have been growing in popularity. "Azimuth fervently believes that homegrown talents should be honed and is thus committed to providing a platform for them to shine. Through companies like Azimuth local designers get promoted to showcase their talents internationally." says Alvin co-founder of Azimuth.

2011 National Day watch design was won by Muhammad Nur Afiq B Zainuddin from ITE College West (Choa Chu Kang) Institute. A limited edition timepieces of the same watch was manufactured which received many positive reviews from all over.
Designers have to contemplate on the significance of the Singaporean identity - on a personal and national level - and combine this significance, together with Azimuth's tradition of avant-garde designs in their submissions. Winners will get cash prizes, and Azimuth watches with a total value of approximately S$2500. The deadline for application submissions is scheduled on 23rd March 2012, and design submission for 23rd April 2012, with the winning design produced in time for Singapore's 47th National Day.

What's more, Azimuth wants the Nation to have a say in the selection of the winning design! Selected designs will be posted on Facebook for the public to vote. These votes will help to determine the winner of our design contest. The winning design will then be made into limited edition timepieces specially commissioned for the National Day Parade 2012. A ceremony will be held to honour the winners and their mentors, with the winning designs being showcased at this ceremony.

More information on the design competition is available on Azimuth's website and Facebook page. Previous year designs can be viewed in appendix A along with the contest details in appendix B.

    National Day Watch 2010
In 2010, luxury watch manufacturer Azimuth, known for its distinctive avant-garde designs, revealed five distinctive timepieces to mark Singapore's 45th year of independence.

Made possible by its revolutionary Round-1 Back in Time design, the world's first single-hand watch that goes anticlockwise, Azimuth created five designs featuring a rare treatment of the digits 4 and 5.

A single hand version and double hand version are each available in two colours - red on a white base, and white on a red base, reflecting the colours of the nation's flag.

Just 45 pieces of each of the four models are available and retailed at $2010, in line with the year of commemoration at Azimuth's exclusive boutiques at Marina Bay Sands and Mandarin Gallery.

Azimuth was a proud sponsor of the National Day Parade 2010.

The Round 1-Back in Time watch was also shortlisted for the President's Design Award 2010.

    National Day Watch 2011
In 2011 Azimuth held a contest wherein students were invited to take part in National Day Watch Design Contest. Azimuth in attempt to encourage and harness the Singapore talents was successful in having more than 83 students participate. The winning was named design 'Singapore Shines' - 100 pieces of this design were manufactured and sold as an Azimuth limited edition 46th National Day watch in Azimuth boutiques at a price of SGD 2,011.

This watch represents Singapore's 46th birthday. The colour red represents the universal brotherhood and equality of man, the colour white stands for purity and virtue. The crescent moon on the dial symbolizes the young nation of Singapore on the rise and the five stars represents the country's ideals of democracy - peace, progress, justice and equality.

10 pieces of the watch were presented to the 46th National Day Parade Committee and other Singapore dignitaries to commemorate the first ever design, manufacture and sale of a student-designed watch in Singapore's history.
