  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) February 24, 2012 - LAUNCH LA proudly presents Mi Familia (My Family), award-winning artist, Antonio Pelayo's first solo exhibition of his professional fine arts career. Mi Familia will run from February 25th through March 17th at the LAUNCH Gallery located at 5900 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. The opening night reception is open to the public and will feature original pieces available for purchase, books containing a collection of Pelayo's artwork signed by the artist himself and music provided by The Get Down Collective.

From recording his earliest memories and observations with pencil and paper, to exhibiting his work in 15 museum shows around the world and winning several prestigious awards including "Best of Show Ontario Museum 2007" and "People's Choice Award, 3rd Ward Open Call NY", Pelayo admits, "Having a solo show is like receiving the highest award in the art world."

The Mi Familia exhibition includes original works from three series of pencil drawings close to Pelayo's heart. The first series, Icons, pays homage to those heroes and villains that have shaped the artists' consciousness from an early age. La Lucha (The Struggle) series reveals the thoughts and dreams of a young man searching for his identity. Finally, in Mi Familia, his most recent drawings display a fondness for his past while coming to terms with the people and cultures that shaped him.

A gifted draftsman held in the highest regard by his peers, Pelayo has been honing his craft his entire life. "Drawing is a skill and discipline, an ancient medium that at times is hard to bring new life to. Drawing is an intimate language…your mind and wrist at work. Antonio shares these intimate moments in his drawing," Artist Gronk says about Pelayo and his work.
