Use and Inspect Personal Protective Equipment and Tools
Personal protective equipment and tools must be used and inspected regularly, Lim mentioned that most of the compensation cases filed by workers involve incidents where employees did not use or wear PPE. Regular inspection of PPE and safety equipment must be conducted routinely and defective tools must be removed to avoid accidents.
Create Written Rules
According to Lim, housekeeping policies should be put into writing, making them well-defined and official. Written rules could specify which tools, cleaners, and type of method should be used. Often ineffective cleaning is the result of undefined protocols. Employees become more aware of these rules when they are put in writing.
Make it Regular
All employees must be responsible and participate in making sure that their own workspaces are clean and tidy, Lim said. Safety hazards and defective office equipment must be immediately reported. Every after shift, employees should clean and inspect their own area and discard unused materials. This will not only reduce the cleaning time but will also prevent pests from inhabiting the workspace.
