  • (1888PressRelease) October 26, 2011 - On September 21, the International Day of Peace was celebrated by countries around the world. To recognize this day and to honor 9/11, Global Awareness, a program of Au Pair in America (www.aupairinamerica.com), sponsored a peace contest amongst their au pairs.

Au pairs answered the question, 'What does peace mean to you?' They were asked to paint a picture, take a photo, write a poem, or sing a song as their answer. Entries were received from young women participating in the au pair program and were judged for creativity and message.

Prizes were awarded for the painting and poetry categories. First place for painting went to French au pair Maxellende Chirol's beautiful painting of a dove. Maxellende lives with a host family in Greenwich, CT.

First prize in poetry went to French au pair Sofia Toubani's poem entitled, "For Thousand Years."

All submissions demonstrated a commitment to creating a world where we learn to appreciate differences rather than fear them.
