  • (1888PressRelease) October 14, 2010 - Dubai, UAE - Belhasa Projects (BHP), the UAE based multi-faceted contracting services company, supplied and installed six running tracks of a total area of more than 60, 000 square metres for the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in New Delhi. The company installed the tracks at six different locations including the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main stadium for CWG and the first athletics track in India to be given a Class 1 Certificate by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) .

Commenting on the project, Albert Joseph, Business Development Manager, Belhasa Projects, said: "We are delighted to have worked on a project of such massive scale. The work started in the beginning of the year at the Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi. We employed a core team of ten employees and a support crew of 35 during the peak times. The single most challenge was the weather, we started laying in fairly reasonable dry conditions of 28 degrees but very quickly in May through July, the temperatures rose to above 40 degrees and then , in August, the monsoons came which resulted in some of the highest rainfall figures that have ever been recorded. However, we managed to complete the work on time, with the last track being laid at the Delhi University."

BHP used Conipur MX, an IAAF certified superior quality sports surfacing system to build the tracks. It is a high performance, impermeable, full pour; three layer athletic track and field sports system. The tracks are applied in-situ (not pre-fabricated) and are seamless and have a granular surface.

The company has successfully offered its services to various national and international sporting events in the past including installing the running track at the Khalifa Stadium in Doha for the 15th Asian Games.

BHP has provided the highest quality sports construction and surfacing for over 20 years.
