  • (1888PressRelease) September 27, 2010 - Sellars Project Space is pleased to host an exhibition of new paintings and etchings by Colorado artist Laurel McMechan in an exhibition titled, Territories. McMechan, who received her MFA from MASS ART in Boston in April, will be presenting new works at an opening on Friday, November 5th, 2010 with a reception for the artist from 6 - 9 p.m. Exhibition will continue through November 30, 2010.

McMechan searches for the narrative of place, perceived simultaneously from multiple perspectives. Like tactical journeys to negotiate a beauty that lies in wait, that decenters as it becomes evident. Her seamless, amorphic images are composited, overlaid, and blended to evoke disorientation and uneasy geography that is difficult to navigate. The slippage in the identities of objects is thrown overhead like camouflage netting. Boundaries shift between surface and recess as territory fluctuates in clarity and definition.

This will be McMechan's first exhibition in Denver, her hometown, since leaving to receive her Masters of Fine Art from MassArt in Boston, Massachusetts. McMechan will be flying from Boston to attend the opening reception.

Sellars Project Space is located in the Historic Highlands - Berkeley Neighborhood at 4383 Tennyson Street in Denver, Colorado (near the corner of 44th Avenue and Tennyson Street). Sellars Project Space is open Tuesdays - Saturdays from 10 - 2 p.m. and always by appointment. For more information or directions visit http://www.sellarsprojectspace.com or call 720.475.1182.

NOTE: Laurel McMechan will also be exhibited in DU's Juried Alumni Exhibition opening on September 30th, 2010 in the Myhren Gallery.
