  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) September 26, 2014 - Apptimized is announcing a significant enhancement to its Application Packaging 'self-service counter'. Besides outputting ready-to-install MSI packages, the system will now automatically include a second package in App-V format in the deliverable without any requirement for additional user interaction.

Implementation of an 'Application Packaging as-a-Service' model has enabled Apptimized to replace the lengthy and complex interactions of traditional Application Packaging with an 'online self-service counter'. The Apptimized 'Cloud factory' allows any IT pro to configure and build desktop software into ready-to-install MSI (Microsoft Installer) files in minutes, applying business 'rules' and installation configuration settings from the source file in order to generate fully-custom packages with minimal user interaction. The new extension to the service will mean that the App-V format required for virtualization projects is automatically included, at no extra cost.

Apptimized CTO Mathias Baumann commented: "Virtualization is becoming more and more important for IT managers and App-V, originally introduced by Microsoft but since also adopted by Citrix, is the de facto industry standard. Since our system is already capable of extracting a complete set of configuration data from each customer upload, it was actually rather trivial to implement support for the App-V virtual server in our delivery mechanism."

Apptimized CEO Vincent Weberink added: "Following that announcement of the end of mainstream support, it's clear that Windows 7 is heading the same way as XP. Many of our clients are looking to virtualize as a way of keeping older PCs on the road. There's no general exodus to streamed software, but we're definitely seeing a trend towards more flexible provisioning models, with companies serving virtualized apps alongside conventional desktop installs.

"Our App-V initiative means that everyone who processes an upload via our automated Cloud packaging factory will receive both MSI and App-V versions of their package at no additional cost. We intend to go on supporting our customers as they move their IT provisioning forward, and automatically creating both the desktop package and virtualized version is a smart response to present developments in the industry."
