  • Indianapolis, IN (1888PressRelease) July 19, 2013 - The restaurants, purchased from South Carolina based Whit-Mart, Inc., cover the surrounding Louisville market and parts of southern Indiana. With this acquisition, the Apple Gold Group, which is the second largest franchisee of Applebee's, now operates 131 restaurants in seven states across the United States.

"The strength of the Apple Gold Group lies in our employees' dedication and the outreach we provide to the communities we serve. Nationally, you hear so many great things about Louisville and its people, so for us, this was a tremendous opportunity to expand our footprint into a great city and surrounding community," said Michael Olander, CEO of the Apple Gold Group. "These locations and their employees will be a great addition to our company and we are looking forward to getting involved locally."

This marks the second acquisition the Apple Gold Group has made from Charleston, S.C. based Whit-Mart, Inc.

In 2011, the company acquired 13 restaurants from Whit-Mart in and around the South Carolina coast, as it began to enter the South Carolina market. Currently, the Apple Gold Group operates 40 restaurants across the state of South Carolina.

The Apple Gold Group strives to be a leader in the casual dining industry and takes pride in being a company devoted to its communities, guests and employees. Their commitment to community has resulted in numerous awards and recognitions, including the highest honor an Applebee's Franchisee can earn, the 2010 Neighbor of the Year Award by Applebee's Services, Inc.

As part of the company's community outreach efforts, the Apple Gold Group has developed many successful fundraising programs, including campaigns for The V Foundation for Cancer Research, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The Apple Gold Group's flagship Flapjack Fundraiser program, launched in 2009, has proven to be the most successful grassroots fundraising initiative in the franchisee's history and was a critical component in helping it raise over $1,200,000 for local charities in 2012.
