Amendments to Colombia’s Primary Battery Regulation Come into Force in July 2019

  • (1888PressRelease) June 20, 2019 - From July 2019, Colombia will be enforcing its new regulation for primary batteries.

    Changes include:
    • Testing in ILAC laboratories will now be accepted
    • Testing should be according to IEC 60086-1:2015 and IEC 60086-2:2015
    • Product marking must include expiration date and positive polarity
    • Covers batteries where the equipment does not function without them

    The following requirements have not changed:
    • Covers the same products and primary batteries
    • Packaging marking requirements
    • Product certification required to comply with the regulation
    • Electrical and chemical testing requirements
    • Electrical and chemical requirements for compliance

    Resolution 0721 – 2018 was originally released on April 16, 2018 by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism. It was originally supposed to come into effect in January 2019, replacing Resolution 0172 – 2012, but this was later put back to July 2019.
