  • (1888PressRelease) October 23, 2013 - TORONTO - Critically acclaimed Tanzanian-Canadian (Kitchener-Waterloo), musical artist Alysha Brilla, is set to break out on to the music scene with her first full-length album, In My Head, released by Sunny Jam Records. This record features Brilla's eclectic roots-pop fusion style instrumentals mixed with her exotic voice and is available now in stores across Canada and iTunes. Brilla, who has been in the industry for over ten years, previously collaborated with some of music's top talent including Tony Kanal (No Doubt), Justin Nozuka and Eon Sinclair (Bedouin Soundclash). Music lovers will be blown away with the album's musical arrangements featuring drums, bass, guitar, keys, sax, trumpet, congas and djembe.

    "This album is a reflection of the real me. These are my words, sounds and style all wrapped into eleven tracks," said Alysha Brilla. "I named this album In My Head for a reason, my fans can actually get into my head and personally experience the story I have to share."

    Brilla, who also plays piano and guitar, is a unique artist. She wrote and produced all the tracks for this album while collaborating in the studio with Mike Jones, a Juno winning engineer, and mastering the album with Tom Coyne, a Grammy award-winner (who has worked with artists such as Amy Winehouse and Adele). On this record you can hear a mixture of her musical influences including: Bob Marley, Bonnie Raitt, Etta James, Selena, Astrud Gilberto, Joni Mitchell and even her father, Osibisa, with his African music and Swahili native tongue.

    "I've been very blessed in my musical career," says Brilla. "I've worked so hard to get where I am today and all I want to do is share my music with everyone."

    Some of Brilla's songs have been featured on numerous television programs including: Lifted which aired on CTV's show Degrassi: The Next Generation, Pearl which aired on CTV's Seed, plus Crown of Flames which was featured on Showcase Network's television series King. Outside of the studio, Brilla has worked with the U.K. award winning multi-disciplinary artist Luke Jerram accompanying his work with her piano stylings in Toronto for his international art piece, Play Me, I'm Yours.

    Brilla will be performing a media showcase in Toronto on November 20, 8 p.m. at C'est What (67 Front Street, Toronto). Media are invited to attend.

    She has toured Canada and the United States with performances in various musical festivals such as The Montreal International Jazz Festival, The Mariposa Folk Festival, The L.A. Angel City Music Festival, The Kitchener Blues Festival, Stratford Blues Festival and The KW Multi-Cultural Festival. She has also won numerous industry awards including: 2012 Leading Edge Arts Award Winner (Waterloo Region Arts Council), 2009 Toronto Blues Society's TOP 3 Artists, 2008 Youth Legacy Award (Grand River Blues Society), 2008 91.5 The Beat contest and the 2005 Canwest Media's "Rhythm Of The Future" Winner. Brilla was also a finalist in the 2013 CBC Radio Searchlight Regional.
