  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) October 28, 2010 - Allscripts (http://www.allscripts.com), a leading provider of innovative software for healthcare organizations and physicians, announced that it will join BD Technologies (http://www.bd.com) to serve as the joint presenting sponsors of the 2010 Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International's (JDRF) "Walk to Cure Diabetes" (http://www.jdrf.org) event to be held Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion in Raleigh. The event will raise funds for research into a cure for Type 1 diabetes. As co-presenting sponsor and co-corporate chair with BD Technologies, Allscripts will donate $25,000 to this year's fundraiser event in addition to money raised by the more than 1,000 employees located in the Allscripts Raleigh office. Allscripts also sponsors JDRF events at its other locations around the country.

JDRF currently funds more research toward Type 1 diabetes than any other non-profit, non-governmental organization in the world, contributing $100 million annually. For additional information and to register for the Oct. 30 "Walk to Cure Diabetes" JDRF fundraiser in Raleigh, visit: http://walk.jdrf.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=walk.walk&eventID=6662&chapterid=4488 or call (919) 847-2630.

Allscripts believes that giving back to the local community is a responsibility that leading organizations should assume. The company supports its employees in their efforts to give back by providing staff paid days off to participate in community education, charity, and non-profit events. Allscripts also allocates money for each company location to invest in causes they select that have a local impact. The fight against Juvenile Diabetes continues to be one of the leading causes supported by Allscripts. The success of Allscripts' sponsorship and involvement begins with the contribution and efforts of Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts, and Diane Adams, Executive Vice President of Talent and Culture.

Tullman joined Allscripts as CEO in August 1997 to lead the company's transition into the healthcare information sector. He is a longtime active supporter and advocate for JDRF and has contributed to raising millions of dollars in search of a cure, along with his family's own contributions, which are measured in the millions. He has encouraged Allscripts to become a lead sponsor of JDRF volunteer fundraising events in North Carolina, Illinois, Georgia, Vermont and other states where the company has employees. Tullman currently serves on the JDRF International Board of Directors and was named the "2009 Person of the Year" by JDRF's Illinois chapter for his significant contributions to the foundation and its Artificial Pancreas Project, one of JDRF's top research priorities.

Adams also serves with Tullman on the International Board of JDRF. She previously served on the JDRF Board of Directors for the Triangle/Eastern North Carolina chapter for seven years. She held several key leadership positions, which include Major Donor Committee Chair, JDRF Gala Chair, and Chair of the Walk to Cure Diabetes. In addition, she was the co-executive sponsor of a joint initiative between JDRF and Cisco, which focused on building a technology platform within JDRF to accelerate a cure for Type 1 diabetes. In July, 2008, she received an "Award of Excellence" from JDRF for her leadership with the Major Donor program and in 2009 was the recipient of the "Ruthie Award," the Chapter's highest volunteer leadership award.

    QUOTES:
"We are extremely proud that Allscripts can be a part of the 2010 JDRF walk in the Triangle," said Tullman. "We have always been invested in the research and efforts at JDRF and we are thankful that our Triangle area employees participate and support the JDRF walk in this way. I'm very optimistic that, through JDRF's cutting-edge research, which includes the Artificial Pancreas and other important breakthroughs, and the generosity of tens of thousands of supporters in the Triangle and beyond, we will find a cure for this disease, which impacts millions of children every day."

"The JDRF walk is a worthy cause that is contributing to the cure of diabetes," said Adams. "It is also an event that supports and builds camaraderie among our employees around such a critically important cause. We would encourage all companies, large and small, to use the walk as an opportunity to give back to the community."
