  • (1888PressRelease) August 30, 2012 - Allied Wire is proud to announce George Gantert as this year's recipient of the $10,000 Allied Wire & Cable Scholarship.

George is the son of Allied Account Representative, Holly Gantert, who has been with the company for eight years. George is attending Montgomery County Community College, and intends to transfer to Temple University once he has completed his core classes.

Of winning the scholarship George said, "It means a lot to me as it relieves the heavy burden of tuition and gets me ahead of the game at Montco…My mom told me (I won) and we both had the biggest smiles on our faces. It was a great moment."

A graduate of Pottsgrove High School, George is an accomplished athlete, lettering in golf, basketball, and baseball. He was also a member of DECA, which is sure to serve as great experience as he studies either Marketing or Actuary Science. Once at Temple, he hopes to do an internship as a way to jump-start his career.

George is the second winner of the Allied Wire & Cable Scholarship. Last year's winner, Matthew Rayner, son of Warehouse Associate, Ron Rayner, is entering his sophomore year at Penn State.

As a family-owned and operated company, Allied is dedicated to giving back to its community, and that includes taking care of the "Allied family." Children of Allied employees who have been with the company for a minimum of three years are eligible to apply for the scholarship during their senior year of high school. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA, and must submit an essay on why they should be considered for the award as part of their application.

The scholarship is awarded based on both merit and financial need, and is paid over the course of the student's college career: $2,500/year for four year programs or $2,000/year for five year programs, so long as the student maintains a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Although George accomplished a lot during his high school career, everyone at Allied is sure he will do even greater things with his time in college. His mother, Holly, said it best: "I'm so proud of him and the man he's become. He's worked hard for everything he's ever achieved, whether it came to sports or academics and it's so nice to see him being recognized and awarded for all of his hard work and ambition."

She goes on to say, "Although I would be proud of him receiving any scholarship, a scholarship from Allied means more because I've seen this company grow from when I started eight years ago, and I'm proud that they can offer this help to our kids. Allied has helped me out over the years and I'm so grateful that they're now helping out my son."

Allied Wire & Cable is proud to celebrate its family values through programs like the Allied Wire & Cable Scholarship, and looks forward to building this tradition with the heart of the company: the employees and their families.
