  • Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill, NC-SC (1888PressRelease) May 31, 2014 - On Friday, June 27, 2014, ALFA will host its 2nd annual Red Ribbon Classic Golf Tournament. The Red Ribbon Classic Golf Tournament is a spirited and fun golf tournament, featuring 18 holes of golf, longest putt and longest drive competitions, networking, breakfast and an awards luncheon.

The tournament will take place at the prestigious Rock Barn Golf and Spa, Conover, NC. Rock Barn Golf & Spa is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and features 36 holes of award-winning golf. The Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Course, a recipient for multiple awards and honors, is ranked 19th in the state by North Carolina Magazine. Both courses are extremely picturesque, yet dramatically challenging.

All proceeds from the tournament will go toward support of ALFA and its mission. In a addition, the tournament will provide HIV awareness and education. Registration will begin at 7:30 AM and the tournament will begin at 9:00 AM with a shot-gun start. The cost is $60.00 per player which includes green fees, breakfast and lunch. For information or to register as a player or a sponsor, please contact Office Manager, Martha Gantt, at 828-322-1447, ext. 222 or offmgr ( @ ) alfainfo dot org dot

Red Ribbon Classic is an excellent way to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS services in the region while supporting ALFA. "HIV/AIDS continues to disproportionately impact individuals living in the South. Statistics in the United States indicate approximately one-half of all new infections occur in the southern region. Young people, ages 13 - 24, are at highest risk likely due to several factors including lack of HIV prevention education and lack of understanding of the impact of the disease in the first decades of the epidemic. Providing prevention education, free HIV testing, and case management services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS are vital to combat this primarily preventable disease", stated Annie Earle, MPH, ALFA Program Director.

The tournament culminates ALFA's week long calendar of events surrounding June 27th's National HIV Testing Day. We look forward to everyone coming out to support the tournament.
