  • (1888PressRelease) October 16, 2010 - DENVER, CO -- The nonprofit AfricAid www.africaid.com supports girls' education and leadership training in Africa. In May 2011 a 13-day deluxe Tanzania safari priced at $7,995 per person double (single supplement $750) will allow travelers to experience authentic Africa and help fund a two-year scholarship for one girl through the Kisa Project, AfricAid's new mentoring and leadership program.

Hosting the safari is Africa Adventure Consultants http://www.adventuresinafrica.com/ that promises extraordinary game viewing in Tanzania game parks at Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. Authentic cultural visits and meetings with AfricAid-supported schools are part of the itinerary. For more information about the trip, please visit http://www.adventuresinafrica.com/adventures.trips.aspx?trip_id=173.

The journey begins May 23 in Arusha with a two-night stay at Rivertrees Country Inn offering old-world elegance between Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru on the Usa River. From here guests visit students and Kisa scholarship recipients to learn of their challenges before overnighting in a classic tented, private bush camp in Losinoni, and game viewing in Tarangire National Park that is famous for its grand Baobab trees and large herds of elephants. One of the best views in Africa awaits at the Tarangire Safari Lodge, a twin-tented camp above the Tarangire River that attracts impressive numbers and variety of game.

Next come the Ngoronogoro Highlands and the Ngoronogoro Serena Lodge that clings to the rim of the world's largest and most perfect volcanic crater, Ngorongoro Crater. The lodge takes its inspiration from the prehistoric site of Olduvai Gorge which lies close by. Linked by arched stone passages and timbered decks, its walls are decorated with stylized prehistoric cave paintings and lit by flaring torches. Rooms are strung around the Crater rim, each with its own rock- enclosed balcony. All enjoy completely uninterrupted views of the volcanic amphitheatre below. Game drives await across the 100-square-mile caldera home to more than 20,000 large mammals.

The Dunia Camp in the Serengeti follows, with a visit to the cradle of mankind, Olduvai George. Game drives to view the Serengeti's incredible wildlife, including the possibility of seeing the great wildebeest migration, fill several days. Treatments at a Maasai healing center on Gibb's (working) Farm in the Ngorongoro Highlands wrap up the adventure.

AfricAid and the Kisa Project are one of the non-profit missions supported by Africa Adventure Consultants. President, Kent Redding is a recent AfricAid board appointee.

"It's well known that girls who are educated can transform their own lives and positively impact the futures of their communities," said Redding, who through living and working throughout Africa has what he calls "a keen sense of how and where energies and money can be spent to begin to make a difference."

AfricAid's (www.africaid.com) origins date back to 1996 when its founder, Ashley Shuyler, traveled to Tanzania with her family at the age of 11. Struck by the poverty she saw there, particularly among children her own age, she became determined to do something to help. From the fact that 95 percent of girls in Tanzania are not able to complete a high school education - mostly because they cannot afford the school fees, she realized that education was the key to uplifting individuals and entire communities. In 2001, Ashley formed AfricAid with the mission of supporting girls' education in Africa in order to provide young women with the opportunity to transform their own lives and the futures of their communities. Since its inception, AfricAid has raised nearly $900,000 in its mission to support girls' education in Africa.

AfricAid provides funding for scholarships, school building projects, leadership training, vocational and teacher training, school supplies, school lunch programs, and it works in conjunction with the local initiatives of Tanzanians and other African leaders committed to education.
