  • Nassau-Suffolk, NY (1888PressRelease) August 13, 2010 - Adelphi University is pleased to host the exhibition "Too Perfect to be Natural," a selection of paintings and computer-generated art that explores the quest for perfection in the context of religious and digital art.

The exhibition features artwork that uses basic geometric structures to generate computer images and paintings, suggesting a world where imperfection is equally a part of creation. Geometry is one of the oldest forms of human expression evident in art, religion, philosophy, and science. Geometry unifies seemingly disparate media, connecting the traditional aesthetic of oil paintings with the coolness of the digital prints on aluminum.

The geometric structures allow Mr. Todd to engage in a process where pictorial content is not a concern and where the experience of making the work goes beyond mathematical logic. A compass, ruler, pencils, and time are all that is needed, along with the realization that perfection only exists as an idea.

Mr. Todd was born in Ireland and has lived in Australia since 1981. He is a graduate of Sydney College of the Arts and the Tasmanian School of Art, in Hobart, and is currently senior lecturer in Art and Design at the University of the Sunshine Coast, in Queensland. He has exhibited and undertaken projects and residencies in Australia and overseas, including a period as a visiting professor at the State University of New York at Cortland from 2001 to 2002, and as a visiting scholar at New York University in 2008.

The Ruth S. Harley University Center Gallery is open Sunday through Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. For more information about this and other upcoming art exhibitions, please visit
