  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) March 19, 2014 - The brothers of the Adelphi University chapter of Kappa Sigma fraternity will participate in the New York Giants 8th Annual Snow Bowl Flag Football Tournament on March 22, 2014 at MetLife Stadium starting at 12 p.m. The Snow Bowl functions as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of New Jersey; in order to participate, each team must raise at least $2,000. Last year, Adelphi Kappa Sigma raised $2,500, an amount they hope to exceed this year.

While the Snow Bowl is the only fundraiser Kappa Sigma participates in for the Special Olympics, they do have a close relationship with the Nassau County PAL Special Needs Unit. Over the past two years, Kappa Sigma has hosted several athletic events, including basketball, football, and softball events, for the Special Needs Unit. The Special Needs Unit has been invited to attend the Snow Bowl with Kappa Sigma as spectators this year.

The Special Olympics is an organization that provides athletic training and opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. They believe that sports training and competition provides an avenue for physical, mental, social, and spiritual growth for the individual. At the same time, families and communities are invited to participate and observe, creating an environment of understanding, acceptance, and respect for those with intellectual disabilities.
