  • (1888PressRelease) July 30, 2011 - San Luis Obispo, CA - Abraxas Energy Consulting announced that it was recently awarded a multi-million dollar contract with the U.S. Coast Guard's (USCG) largest west coast training center, Training Center Petaluma (TRACEN), to perform comprehensive, professional energy services. Abraxas Energy consulting will provide a plan of action and energy saving projects to assist the USCG to meet their energy and water reduction goals and achieve federal High Performance Sustainable Building status. This extensive contract will include ASHRAE Level I and Level II energy audits, water efficiency audits, retro-commissioning studies, metering, and a variety of other energy related services.

The USCG is one of the five armed forces of the United States and the only military organization within the Department of Homeland Security. TRACEN Petaluma is comprised of many facilities, including its own Police Station and Fire House, medical and dental clinic, various recreational facilities, including a theatre, gymnasium, and bowling center, and a base Exchange. The training center offers 50 courses to approximately 4000 students a year. Providing these and other services to base personnel and their dependents can be very costly in terms of utility usage.

"In these tough times, it is essential that the federal government cut costs wherever possible," says John Avina, President and founder of Abraxas Energy Consulting, "We generally can find ways for our customers to reduce their energy costs by 10% to 35%. For this particular facility, this could amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars in utility savings every year for the USCG and the taxpayer overall."

To aid in the USCG's efforts, Abraxas Energy Consulting is installing Advanced Metering so the reduction goals can be verified and monitored. Abraxas is also performing a composting analysis to lower the size requirement for a planned wastewater treatment plant. ASHRAE standards compliance surveys are also being conducted to move buildings forward in meeting improved Indoor Air Quality and Thermal comfort standards. Lastly, leak detection surveys will be conducted to ensure energy and water is not lost in delivery.
