The Inaugural Peak City Pig Fest, which expects to see more than 10,000 visitors this year, is the only event in the Triangle that is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS). All judges, including Schwenneker, must be KCBS certified judges and use the official KCBS rules. The event expects to host 30 professional barbecue teams from across the nation who will compete for a total of more than $15,000 in prize money cooking chicken, ribs, beef brisket and pork. The Inaugural Peak City Pig Fest is sponsored by the Apex Sunrise Rotary Club and will raise funds to support the community through various causes supported by the Rotary Club including Western Wake Crisis Ministry, which helps provide food and crisis financial aid to those in need in the community.

    - Schwenneker has received two Associated Press Awards for Best Weathercast and holds the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal from the American Meteorological Society as well as a Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association.

    - Don, who started his weather career nearly 20 years ago, has served as a meteorologist for WBBM-TV in Chicago, WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh, WTAJ-TV in Pennsylvania and KBIM-TV in New Mexico.
