Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, ABC11 Eyewitness News morning meteorologist Don Schwenneker will be the emcee for the 5K, which came to Wake Forest in 2009 to honor New York City firefighter Stephen Siller, who lost his life on Sept. 11, 2001. The race will begin at the Wake Forest Fire Department 1, located at 420 E. Elm St. in Wake Forest.

    There are nearly 50 Tunnel to Towers runs across the United States honoring Siller. The Wake Forest run will benefit the Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill; the Stephen Siller Foundation, which supports children who have lost a parent; and Rebuilding Hope, a non-profit organization that rebuilds the homes and lives of those in need.     - On Sept. 11, firefighter Stephen Siller ended his shift at Squad 1 in Brooklyn, when he learned of the first plane hitting the World Trade Center. Feeling the need to help, he began driving towards Manhattan. After finding the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel closed to traffic, he ran with 60 pounds of gear strapped to his back through the tunnel all the way to the World Trade Center.

    - At the race, awards will be presented to the top three overall finishers as well as the top finishers by age group each for men and women.
