  • (1888PressRelease) June 04, 2012 - One Face One Race is planning a very ambitious 'One Face in Space' project. The T-shirt brand that encourages diversity and unity will launch a helium balloon to the edge of space from a remote location in New South Wales, Australia in July 2012.

A spokesperson for the company said "this is a very exciting project and we have received a great response. We just hope we can locate our equipment when it comes back to earth and that the equipment holds up in the freezing temperatures and impact when landing."

The Helium balloon will be sent to the edge of space carrying a device (smartphone or tablet) which will display a slideshow of 196 people from all over the world during the flight. This device will be attached to a box containing a digital camera to record the slideshow with the earth in the background and a GPS tracking device. There will also be a parachute attached to the payload which will deploy once the balloon bursts.

The company calculates that the Balloon will burst at just over 100,000 feet and will descend at a rate of 6 meters per second. "We are in talks with a number of phone providers to discuss the probability of their device standing up to the challenge of 90 mins in extreme temperatures as low as -60C."

One Face One Race is now accepting photo submissions for the project from which they will randomly select one face from every country around the world. To be part of the project people can submit their photo on the company's facebook page www.facebook.com/onefaceonerace

The company spokesperson confirmed that they were considering a World Record attempt after discussions with Guinness World Records but did not disclose what record they would be setting.

Will it be your face in space? Submit your photos and watch this Space!
