  • (1888PressRelease) May 20, 2015 - This year we've seen over 100 youth come together for five days at York University to learn how to build safer spaces for themselves and most importantly for their peers. Queer, Trans and Allied Youth learned to better themselves and challenge Homophobia, Transphobia, Biphobia and LGBTQism's.

The National Gender and Sexuality Alliance Forum is Canada's only weeklong youth-run training forum on diversity and inclusion. We bring 100 youth from across the country together for extensive education and training on how to be champions for diversity and inclusion in their schools.

In order to create sustainable changes in our schools, we need to empower young people to become leaders for change.

More than that, we need to take the time and equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in their endeavours.

Youth have identified this gap in services. Working across Canada, the Centre heard from LGBTQ-Allied youth and they told us that they need training and support. As Canada's youthled advocate for diversity and inclusion, we have stepped in to address this gap through the GSA Forum.

"It wouldn't have been possible without the great work of Kole Peplinskie, Sarah Littisha Jansen and the Canadian Centre for Gender + Sexual Diversity! Sarah is now building a third GSA forum to continue to inspire youth to build safer spaces in their schools. I thank Kole, Sarah, Jer and all of the dedicated volunteers who have made all of this possible!" - Christopher Karas

The Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity (CCGSD) ---- The Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity was established to support and empower work happening on a collaborative and/or collective level between and within territories, provinces, and nations of peoples such as Canadians, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. This support comes in the form of educational and arts-based initiatives, research, and resources for schools and communities, ranging from a full day of workshops with ongoing support to week-long training forums with integrated year-long projects as part of its deliverables. The International Day of Pink is part of this programming, where we provide learning kits that make wearing pink a catalyst for change. Lastly, complementary programs facilitated by our Youth Advisory Committee, such as our grants, awards, and scholarships, continue to celebrate the ongoing work already being done in hundreds of communities daily.
