The Carmel Orchid Society, Carmel Valley Garden Association and Hidden Valley Music Seminars are presenting their popular 42nd Annual Carmel Valley Garden Show (www.cvgardenshow.com) on May 7th and 8th, 2011 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This not-to-be-missed free event for the whole family which attracts over 2,500 locals and visitors will be held at the Hidden Valley Music Seminars, located at 88 West Carmel Valley Road, in Carmel Valley Village (11 miles east of Highway 1) with ample free parking.

    The show will feature beautiful plant and floral displays with accredited judging, a lecture by Elizabeth Murray, gardening expert and author, John Greenlee who owns Greenlee nursery, the oldest grass nursery in California, potting demonstrations with helpful suggestions for all levels of gardeners including the secrets of healthy orchids and successful gardens, Silent Auction, Field of Flowers created by prominent local artists, Children's Garden with lots of fun activities including making stepping stones and face painting, vegetable gardens, beautiful handmade pottery, a wide selection of plants and orchids for sale, container plants, artistic flower arrangements, a wide array of art, gift and jewelry vendors, as well as delicious Greek food by Poseidon's, snacks including organic fruit salad, cookies and lemonade and more, wine, beer, coffee and other beverages. Some of the finest orchid growers will sell a large selection of orchids to attendees. There will also be gorgeous orchid and rose displays. In these rather stressful and economically challenging times, when more people are "nesting" in their homes, returning to basics and enjoying the joy and relaxing aspects of gardening, this is one event that should not be missed! Orchids are one of the most popular, long-lasting beautiful flowering plants that can last for years with a little knowledge to be learned at this fun Mother's Day event.

    ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

    ELIZABETH MURRAY:
    Internationally respected gardening expert and photographer, Elizabeth Murray has been photographing cultivated gardens around the world for many years. Most of her time however was dedicated to working in Monet's garden at Giverny, a garden that she has come to know intimately. Elizabeth helped with the restoration of Monet's gardens and has returned annually for 25 years to photograph them. Murray's work from Giverny stirs an instant recognition, and she was invited to exhibit her renowned series with Monet's paintings traveling in museum exhibitions. Elizabeth Murray has been published both as a fine art photographer and landscape horticulturist and today she continues to lecture and share her creative techniques. She is the author of many books, including Monet's Passion: Ideas, Inspiration, and Insights from the Painter's Gardens. www.elizabethmurray.com.

    JOHN GREENLEE:
    John Greenlee has been creating grass ecologies in gardens of all sizes all over the United States and Canada since 1984. He owns Greenlee Nursery, the oldest grass nursery in California. He has appeared frequently on television and was named horticulturist of the year in 2002 by the Southern California Association of Horticulturists. He is the author of several books, including The Encyclopedia of Ornamental Grasses (Rodale 1992). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in ornamental horticulture from Cal Poly, Pomona, California. An expert in grass ecology and champion of sustainable design, John Greenlee has made meadows all around the world. His designs are featured in The San Diego Zoo, Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida, and in private residencies all over California, elsewhere in the US, as well as Hawaii, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia.
