  • (1888PressRelease) February 12, 2014 - Inaugurated by H.E. Salem Ali Al Zaabi, Executive Director of Marine and Land Transport Sector from National Transport Authority, the 2nd Annual Port Management Strategy Summit commenced today. The summit is being held at Amwaj Rotana - Jumeirah Beach Residence - Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The two day summit is supported by Hamriyah Free Zone Authority will focus on developing new strategies for global port management and optimization of port operations.

    Bogdan Ołdakowski from Baltic Ports Organization, Poland chaired the summit on day one and delivered the opening remarks. Followed by keynote presentations from Dirk Van Den Bosch from DP World and Dr. Rashid Al Leem representing Sharjah Ports & Customs and Sharjah Free Zone Authority. Dr. Rashid communicated his views with regards to sustainability in Sharjah Ports.

    In line to the presentation by Dr. Rashid, a keynote discussion on Middle East port strategy- developing infrastructure for a sustainable future, witnessed the maritime leaders review the big picture of port management strategies in the region. The panel moderated by Bogdan evaluated the trend and opportunities to improve the middle east transport sector.

    Moving forward the summit witnessed an informative session on dry bulk handling and how it can be efficient and environmentally friendly at the same time by Peter Göransson from Siwertell(Associate Sponsor). The summit also saw Christophe Piloix of Port of Marseille-Fos Authority, France addressing the audience on Port Authorities business model evolution.

    Post luncheon, Capt. Feisal A. Saad from Qatar Petroleum (QP) Industrial Ports, Qatar and Edwin Lammers from Port Of Sohar, Oman are scheduled to provide insights on Ports & Terminals Planning and Optimization and Port Of Sohar Land Lord Model for Port Development respectively. Concluding the day will be a panel discussion on ensuring efficient collaboration with ports- intermodal planning - opportunities and challenges to overcome. This session will discuss about the various hinterland strategies and challenges on board.

    Second day of the summit, senior representatives, from Baltic Ports Organization, International Harbour Masters Association, Port Authority of Genoa, Petróleos de Venezuela, Masdar Institute of Science and Technology and others will delve into global ports overview and port sustainability.
