  • Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) September 10, 2019 - The 24th annual Susan G. Komen® Miami/Ft. Lauderdale MORE THAN PINK Walk™ takes place on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Bayfront Park from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The MORE THAN PINK Walk™ brings together an empowered community of hope to raise funds for breast cancer treatment, patient advocacy and lifesaving research.

Last year, Komen debuted the new name for the fundraiser (formerly known as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®) with an overwhelmingly positive response. More importantly, the local affiliate raised over $616,000 in 2018 for the fight against breast cancer including a portion of the funds supporting a financial treatment assistance program and a national research program for break through discoveries helping patients live longer lives.

The MORE THAN PINK Walk™ ensures that participants have a clear understanding of the value they provide in Susan G. Komen’s overall mission and how their fundraising makes an impact in our community.

This year, Bank of America is the national sponsor of the MORE THAN PINK Walk™. The premier research partner is Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and other sponsors include: Publix®, Kellogg’s Products®, South Florida Ford Dealers, Miami Cancer Institute, InterContinental at Doral Miami, CVS Pharmacy y Más, Navarro Discount Pharmacy, Team FootWorks, and Ryder®.

“The MORE THAN PINK Walk™ provides an opportunity to come together with others to share stories, laughter and tears while uniting behind a commitment to fight this devastating disease by raising money to save lives,” said Sherri Martens-Curtis, Susan G. Komen Executive Director. “We’re excited about this year’s event and encourage everyone to register and begin fundraising!”

“Come walk with us! We look forward to seeing everyone on October 12 for a day of inspiration and hope as we honor those we have lost, celebrate those who have survived and support everyone currently living with breast cancer, added Martens-Curtis.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. In the United States, one case of breast cancer is diagnosed every two minutes, and one woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes. A lack of health insurance and living in lower-income areas are both associated with lower survival rates among breast cancer patients, as well as the presence of other illnesses, unequal access to care and disparities in treatment.
