  • Norwich-New London, CT (1888PressRelease) September 07, 2011 - Youth, give them wings… the 11th International Festival "Young Artists in Krakow" is about to start. During the inaugural concert at the St Mary's Basilica, we'll hear Jan Mroczek and Tomasz Skiba. The first is an avid fan of French music and a successful organist, the latter a saxophonist with several awards from prestigious competitions under his belt. Their instruments create an extraordinary and innovative combination; the duet demonstrates that as well as monumental sounds, the organ can produce more subtle tones matching those of the saxophone. Their musical interests mainly include French music from the turn of the 20th century.

The second day of the festival will mainly feature vocalists. Liu Qianran (soprano) and Szymon Rudzki (tenor), accompanied by the harpsichord of Bogumila Gizbert-Studnicka, the festival's artistic director, will perform compositions by Handel, Bach, and Mozart.

On 8 September the Franciscan Church will resound with Baroque music performed by Izabela Szlachta-Dowgiallo and Paulina Tkaczyk. The violinist and harpsichordist will take on pieces by Vivaldi and Corelli.

The festival will culminate with Yerba-mate, a spectacle whose title symbolises the combination of music and dance (9 September, Austrian Consulate General Gallery). This traditional South American drink encourages candour, so the protagonists will tell tales of their relationships and communal life, and the performance will be complemented by Astor Piazzolla's tangos stressing sensuality, passion and desire.
