An extract from the diary of Eleanor Harmsworth, governess at Waldegrave Hall, dated Wednesday 11 October 1899:
"At first, I was utterly transfixed, but as I summoned the courage to move, so the presence hurriedly glided past me and, similar to a heated knife slicing through a block of cold butter, went straight through the closed door of my bedchamber and disappeared. If ever an event were created to determine the mettle of an individual, then exposing a person to a chilling spectacle such as this would surely test the nerve of any mortal."

In this extraordinary novel, author Gordon Punter delivers a story about courage, risk, change and hope, and a love that never dies.

    About the Author:
Born in England and raised in west London, Gordon Punter, a self-taught film-maker, has spent the past thirty years, principally in the Middle East, employed as a Media Production Director, writing, producing and directing video commercials, documentaries and corporate programmes.

An avid reader of history, in particular, true crime, he took early retirement three years ago to concentrate on writing. Woodland Ghosts is his second novel. Currently researching and writing his third novel, he presently lives in Qatar with his Canadian wife, Cindy, whom he has been married to for twenty-five years.

    Excerpt from the Book:
"Greatly affected by her own utterance and with an anguished expression, Eleanor clutches Miles to her chest, "Come back, Miles. Come back, come back to me." In the darkest recess of his mind, held captive by the odious presence, which unbeknownst to him was once his earthly mother, Miles hears the voice of Eleanor, faintly at first, but steadily growing louder, "Think only of love, Miles. It is your armour. Do not be afraid. Come to the sound of my voice. I shall guide you home. Come back, Miles, come back to me."

Caught unawares by her entreatment, and the stiffening resistance of Miles to its malevolent influence, the abomination, incapable of challenging a reciprocated love, abandons its hold on the boy and begins to retreat. Engulfed by the pungent scent of lavender exuding from a perspiring Miles, Eleanor quickly lays him back down on the bed and, covering him with the bedclothes, recoils, seeing an indefinable spectral shape rapidly extracting itself from his body. Hovering over Miles for a mere second or two, the shape diminishes in size and, as if sucked into a vortex, disappears altogether."
