    Excerpt from the Book:
"Constable Snoddy reckoned however, that though pigs could swim, they couldn't fly. The most ridiculous claim of all however was from a joker who called himself Saltbush Bill, and that he lived in Wagga Wagga in the south of Australia. He said he had a pig stolen and he wondered if this could be it. But Constable Algernon Snoddy had been good at geography as a boy at school, and knew where Australia was, and that it would take about a month for the story to reach there and the letter to come back. Anyway, the postmark on the letter read Sunderland! A few locals from South Hylton who claimed ownership were eliminated when asked how many buttons the sow had on her waistcoat. One said two, another twenty two, while a third said six. The correct answer of course was ten. So the sow remained ownerless and the bill for feed mounted. Snoddy thought that the sow should be sold to pay for it's keep, but that would have to be authorized. Then fate tood a hand; or was it the sow? One morning the pigsty gate was found to be smashed open and there was no sign of the sow. Was this another serious crime that Constable Snoddy would be called on to solve? And solve it he did! First of all he made enquiries and then he visited everyone in North Hylton who had a piggery, or even an old unused pig-sty, but without success. Then he was reminded of the recluse, known as Hodgy, who had a rough dwelling on the wooded land at the far bend of the river beyond High Row. So he went to the site and met the old fellow who was happy to show hi his pig-sty. To Snoddy's amazement, on entering he saw the saddleback (which he recognized) lying on her side and ten lovely pink piglets, lying like peas in a pod, each with a teat in it's mouth, alternatively sucking then sleeping. The sow gave a little snort as though in recognition, and Snoddy felt overwhelmed by it all. As he reluctantly left the sty, he glanced back once more in admiration."
