“The Reluctant Assassin” by Bip Wetherell is published
A riveting thriller about a family with an ancestry of assassins

    About the Book:
This novel traces the history of the Stevens family from 1916 to 2020, covering four generations. What is so unusual about this family is that they are all special intelligence operatives and serve in an ultra-secret unit answering to senior military officers appointed directly by the King. In each generation, the eldest son is selected to carry on the tradition when he reaches the age of 21 years. The operatives are highly-trained as intelligence agents, and their role is to act as judge, jury and executioner of the targets selected. The targets are men and women who have been engaged in treasonous activities or conducting espionage for a foreign power, but the agent has been given the discretion to satisfy himself that the charges are justified before he executes the offender.

    About the Author:
Bip Wetherell is a retired musician and businessman still doing occasional Gigs with sixties pop group ‘The Tornados’. He also raises money for 'ProsTaid', a local Prostate Cancer Charity, putting on theatre shows and live music, concerts and festivals. Bip’s first novel was entitled “Chopped” (2019) and his second published book was a collection of vengeful tales entitled “Cold Revenge” (2020). He lives in Corby, England and is married to Elaine and has four children.

    Excerpt from the Book:
“He could only remember having two fights in his life. They were split up before they got too serious, and both times Jack could remember being scared at the thought of physical violence. He hadn’t backed down, and he did not run away, but a schoolyard brawl was a completely different world away from killing another human being even if they were scum. He knew the government would train him to kill, and he knew he would enjoy the physical side of the training as he was supremely fit anyway.

Could he kill someone face to face? Was it in his blood like his ancestors before him? His hatred for his father’s killers would help. No need for judge or jury. He would be the one to pull the trigger. Could he do it? It was this thought that kept him awake most of the night. Jack took the dog for a very long walk the following morning; he then spent an hour in the gym shifting weights that he had not attempted before. He used his anger towards his father’s killers to spur him on and after his shower and a light breakfast, he telephoned Commander James with his decision.”
