  • (1888PressRelease) March 22, 2011 - The 'Spring Into Summer' show is one of light and celebration as this new, exciting season of hope emerges from the dull, long, grey days of winter. A talented mix of contemporary landscape artists capture this sense of expectation, exhilaration and enthusiasm in bold colour and sometimes thrilling, sometimes thoughtful compositions, inspired by the British landscape, that excite and lift the heart.

The exhibition celebrates the contrast and variety of the season. The striking and bold, colourful images of the Cornish countryside by John Piper contrast with the wistful, reflective and atmospheric paintings of Tom Wanless; the intimate, spirited and emotive paintings of Mark Preston; the often dreamlike, dramatic imagery of Lesley McLaren; and the restful, gentle landscapes of Lynn Rodgie.

Carole Teagle, Gallery Manager at Red Rag Gallery in Stow, says, 'We are always excited when Spring arrives; this colourful collection of paintings by some of our most talented contemporary landscape artists captures a real sense of hope and promise - summer days will soon arrive and blow our cares away!'

John Piper (born 1946) moved to Cornwall in 1963 and is a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists and the Penwith Society; Mark Preston (born, Derby 1976) studied illustration at Anglia University; Lesley McLaren (born 1959) studied at Exeter College of Art; Lynn Rodgie studied at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen and worked as a graphic designer before deciding to concentrate on painting full time; Tom Wanless trained as a teacher at Bede College, Durham and then studied art at Sunderland College of Art, later taking up a post as Principal Lecturer for Creative Arts at Leeds Polytechnic; he has won numerous awards.

The 'Spring Into Summer' Exhibition runs from Sunday 10 April 2011 to Sunday 01 May 2011.
