    "The demand for skilled workers is increasing in many sectors. We cannot meet this demand simply by relying on immigration. We must make greater use of our existing potential, so that we can satisfy the need for skilled workers in the future as well," stresses Bavaria's Minister for Family Affairs, Emilia Müller. "With that in mind, I am very pleased that more than 100 Bavarian companies are getting involved in our consultancy initiative and embracing family-friendly policies."

    Create opportunities, attract skilled staff
    With a timeframe of about one year, T-Works will be using the consultancy service to establish a personnel policy which caters to the various life stages of the employees.

    Family-friendly offers open up opportunities for working mothers and fathers. And they help the companies to attract skilled staff. Within the framework of the initiative "Mit ElternKOMPETENZ gewinnen", experienced consultants support the participating companies in developing tailored female- and family-friendly measures and integrating them into the company. The building blocks range from highly flexible working hours and work location possibilities (e.g. home office), further training and qualification measures, free parking spaces, complimentary drinks in the workplace and supplementary health insurance schemes, to crèche and nursery school subsidisation. When deciding which measures are most useful, it is important to take the personal situation of the employee into consideration.

    Plans for the future
    "Our goal is to create flexible and family-friendly workplaces for highly qualified employees," explains the managing director of T-Works, Florian Obermaier.

    The "Mit ElternKOMPETENZ gewinnen" initiative is financed by the Bavarian Familienministerium (availing of the European Social Fund, ESF) and by Bavarian federal state funding. Between July 2013 and January 2014, 112 Bavarian companies applied to take part, and are now receiving advice and guidance in the framework of a multi-level process on the path to a more family-friendly workplace.
