  • (1888PressRelease) May 04, 2016 - "Lazarus: The Autobiography" by Roderick Wood, About the Book: This book is about Roderick Wood's life. He died for nearly half an hour in February 2014 and was brought back to life by the skills of the lifesaving team. Since that episode, his brain has activated memories from way back, and he felt compelled to put them all down in a book in case the memories fade.... and writing the book itself helped him to recover.

    Excerpt from "Lazarus: The Autobiography":
"Immediately after the heart attack, I don't really remember much. In fact, I don't remember much for the first four weeks or so of my hospital stay. Of course, I've since found out that my ex-wife and eldest son were taken into a cold, clinical room by the doctor and told that I had suffered from severe brain damage as a result of the heart attack. They were told that I'd be like a goldfish in a bowl, alive but limited - very limited. It hurts to think of them having to go through this, but it feels good that I proved the doctors wrong.

Eight months have passed since that fateful day at the gym, and with all the tremendous positive energy and prayers sent to me by friends and family, I'm nearly recovered. I'm not like a goldfish in a bowl. My brain is still a bit slow, I admit, but it wasn't that quick before…."

5.0 out of 5 stars Capturing a natural innocence

I really enjoyed this read as it took me right back to the times where even though there was a lot of hidden domestic violence and many unhappy housewives, life was in many ways really exciting and a lot freer, we could go out at a very young age and be out all day, we would get so excited about what single would be at number one, so well done Rod as even though you obviously had a very chequered past, as did all young people of our day, there was an innocence to everything we did, it wasn't corrupted by porn, we danced all night, went to amazing parties, we didn't have our drinks spiked and life and love was a lot simpler, no one was overweight and no one cared who had bigger breasts, everyone looked slim and beautiful and natural. I look forward to your next book ... You captured an era and took me right back there, well done Rod.
