  • Fort Lauderdale, FL (1888PressRelease) January 23, 2014 - Lady anglers are invited to tackle fishing skills at the South Florida "Ladies, Let's Go Fishing!" University, April 11-13, 2014 at the I.T. Parker Community Center, Dania Beach, FL. The weekend conservation-minded university, held in conjunction with support from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), offers classroom presentations, networking, hands-on skill practice and an optional charter fishing trip.

    Activities launch Friday night with a networking social and Master Chef appetizer contest starting at 6 pm. On Saturday, classroom presentations begin at 8:30 am with a conservation presentation by the FWC. Next, local experts will conduct classes on Offshore, Inshore, Bottom and Fly Fishing, plus Fishing Basics. The Pollo Tropical Lunch features a presentation by the Everglades Foundation and a "Dress for Fishing Success" fashion show. Hands-on skill practice sessions follow for releasing, knot tying, dehooking, bait rigging, spin casting, gaffing grapefruits, cast netting, trailer backing, boat handling, reel maintenance and more.

    On Sunday, the ladies board charter boats at approximately 7 a.m. for an optional half day fishing trip, followed by a filet demonstration. The women typically catch and/or release sailfish, mackerel, tuna, wahoo, snapper and more.

    Featured on national network television and more, the series is held in conjunction with the FWC through the Sport Fish Restoration Program, with major partners including Mercury Outboards, Ranger, Minn Kota, Humminbird and Magic Tilt Trailers.     Registration starts at $99 for the first 20 to sign up, then $135 after. Registration includes instruction, use of equipment, hands-on training, networking reception and fundraisers, meals, goody bags and more. The Sunday Fishing Adventure, with tackle and bait provided, is additional. No equipment or experience is necessary. No membership is required, however there is a South Florida chapter available for graduates to continue the fishing fun.
