An engaging and revealing novel about human interactions and reactions to a tragic motorway accident

    About the Book:
Hoping to save his disintegrating marriage, Edward Poulter brings disaster on himself and many other people by causing a major motorway accident. The physical and practical impact of the crash leads to a sequence of cause and effect which is brought to life in this novel by author Colin Arnold. He has intertwined the activities and professions of people before the disaster with the consequences and results on their immediate and longer term involvements and intimacies.

The before and after stories of the families and participants reveal the pressures and stresses on the emergency services in addition to those directly involved in the accident and the delays to their planned activities.

Colin Arnold reveals an in-depth awareness of people and their reactions to events and interactions with each other and authority. He shows a deep understanding of the nature and role of human relationships in coping with disaster and stress.

    Excerpt from “Impact”:
“In his nine years’ experience, PC Edwards had never seen such a bad road accident. He quickly assessed the situation and told emergency control, ‘This is a big one. You need to alert all the hospitals in the area. We probably have at least two dead, a large number of injured including some who will need to be cut from their cars. You also need to alert the air ambulance and local breakdown and vehicle transport services.’ He also advised them to tell all the emergency vehicles either to come in on the slip road he had used or to make the four mile journey along the reverse direction of the motorway from Junction 10.

Within fifteen minutes the site was full of police cars and motor-cycles, ambulances and fire and rescue appliances. Nothing could be moved until photographs had been taken. There were so many damaged vehicles in the two lanes and on the hard shoulder that it was impossible to clear a lane to allow traffic through safely without endangering peoples’ lives.

Leonard Chester, local police Chief Superintendent, quickly arrived to take overall control of the scene and he had already arranged for a mobile control centre to be provided and sited near to the scene to coordinate records of names, vehicles and test results.”

    Wordly Traveller

    5.0 out of 5 stars
Excellent novel about human relationships and interactions as evidenced in a motorway crash

I really enjoyed this book. It is both an engaging story and a fascinating and revealing study of human relations as told through the eyes of those involved in a tragic motorway "accident". I love novels like this which make you think and can reveal something about ourselves and the human nature and how we respond to crises, stress, threatening situations and authority.
