  • Salinas, CA (1888PressRelease) May 12, 2012 - Primarily targeted to help women ages 34-62, Her Money Magazine (www.JLMPublications.com) is the creation of a money-savvy local entrepreneur, Julie Mergen.

In 2004, as a recent divorcee with two children following a 20-year marriage, Julie founded a local women's investment club on the Monterey Peninsula. As she and her 16 investment club members grew in their money wisdom through both a booming economy and a rocky one, Julie realized how much she wanted to share her knowledge with a much bigger audience. Her Money Magazine will become the perfect vehicle to let her accomplish her dreams and help others to realize their own. She is dedicating this magazine to all women as well as anyone who wants to discover their relationship with money and create financial freedom that will result in freedom in all aspects of their life. As she had suspected, she has discovered that there are dozens of companies - from insurance companies to financial advisors - who want to advertise to reach this prime target market.

In her premiere June issue, Julie will distribute the magazine at no-charge throughout Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties at coffee shops, grocery stores, doctor's offices, and newsstands, with the plan to go national as soon as possible. A 2-year subscriptions is $37.50 (the first issue is complimentary and single issues are $6.95) and a subscription makes the perfect gift for a loved one. There will also be a special "members only" section of the website filled with valuable resources, information and tools.

Julie remarks, "I am fascinated with business systems. I hold admiration for those who create products from concepts. Along with my innate entrepreneurial spirit, I find money simply interesting -- even more intriguing is the multiple, seemingly endless perceptions we as humans have about money: money stops us, blocks us, money molds us, holds us, money is freedom, money is greed, money is a tool and a crutch, money is anger and happiness, money is love, companionship, affection, money is scarce, money is security, money is prosperity and abundant, money is influence and power. Money can be build an empire and destroy a marriage … if that is how money is perceived, that is what money becomes …"

During its existence, Julie's investment club touched the lives of 16 diverse women. Together they learned and implemented strategies for investing 1 dollar to earn 2 in return. They studied the stock market, learned about real estate investing, explored several business models; held a club portfolio which fostered courage for many members to move outside their comfort zone and expand their individual portfolios. They made some money, and they lost some money - but most importantly, they learned to change their perceptions about money. Perceptions about money uniquely restrained each of them from achieving financial freedom and financial freedom meant something different to each of them as well.

Her Money Magazine will include six sections that encompass important topics to help create a balanced life: Her Self: (i.e. attracting money, the power of intuition, self-care, etc.), Her Family: (i.e. taking care of an elderly family member, teaching teenagers about money); Her Community: (i.e. finding what makes your heart sing, volunteering abroad); Her Health: (i.e. the real cost of food, identifying and preventing stress); Her Money: Financial/Business (i.e. stock advice, real estate advice); and Her Lifestyle: (i.e. finding style, living green, living dreams). She is still looking for a few more talented writers who have expertise in these areas.

The logo and symbol of Her Money is a colorful five point star with a heart in the center. The star represents a balanced life and subtly suggests that we all "follow our star" and lead a purposeful life, Within the logo, the pink arm of the star represents the head or spiritual side of Her Self, the yellow arm of the star represents Her Community, the red arm is Her Family, the green arm, of course, represents Her Money, and purple represents Her Lifestyle, and they all surround a blue heart in the middle for Her Health.

An Oregon native, Julie attended the University of Oregon and studied journalism and then went to Brooks Institute of Photography and studied advertising/illustration and photography. Her studies will help her create a successful magazine. Married for 20 years, she has been a single Mom for four years and has two children, now ages 10 and 13. She has lived on the Monterey Peninsula for 20 years and teaches money management. She is also writing a book about aligning passion with prosperity. She serves on the Monterey Bay Charter School Foundation Board and works as the Fundraising, Events and Volunteer Coordinator at Monterey Bay Charter School while she launches Her Money Magazine.
