  • Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) April 24, 2021 - “Grateful Jews”, an online seminar that explores Jewish connections to the world of the Grateful Dead, will be presented for Midwest Jewish Deadheads on Wednesday May 5 and May 12 at 7:15pm Central. “We’ve had a good time offering the seminar with an East Coast start time,” says seminar leader Scott A. Tepper, “and fans in the Midwest deserve a time better for them.”

“Grateful Jews” uses the “4 Worlds” framework of Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) to explore the connections: the physical (Jews in the Grateful Dead Universe), the intellectual (Jewish themes in songs and lyrics), the emotional (cultural connections), and the spiritual (the Grateful Dead experience.) The seminar includes an introduction to the “4 Worlds.”

With all that to delve into, “Grateful Jews” is two sessions of two hours each. The seminar presents images, music, and interviews. Attendance is also limited, to allow a more interactive experience.

The seminar leader is Scott A. Tepper, also known by his Jewish moniker “Reb Zisha.” Tepper has been a lay religious leader and teacher in Boston’s Jewish community and beyond for decades. He received a BA in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies from Brandeis University, and a Master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. His most memorable Dead experience was 3 nights July 1982 at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado – in the rain.

Tepper plans to offer future seminars for other time zones, including the UK.
