Arriving at a loch-side holiday park, some things are familiar and others not quite right. He and his brother argue over different girls, one of whom has a strange request. A riddle leads the brothers into unexpected adventure, and a calamity from the past comes back to haunt them.

    Excerpt from “Feather”:
“Stephanie!” A vision suddenly took hold. It was of her, not Madeleine, standing beside him as he steered the ferry to its destination. Elliott shook his head vigorously, trying his hardest to dislodge her from his mind.

“Whatever is the matter dear boy - you look as though you’ve seen a ghost?” The old lady’s tone was strange, almost mocking.

“S-sorry – just realised I’ve forgotten something,” he lied. Elliott wondered why he was still incapable of sustaining happiness for more than a fleeting moment. Even the view appeared to have lost its sparkle. But he already knew the answer: he wasn’t worthy of it.

The old woman studied him attentively. “You’re quite a troubled young man, aren’t you? Nice, but definitely quite troubled.”

Elliott stared back suspiciously: this lady knew more about him than she should. She was also being quite brazenly personal. He inspected the remaining passengers. Fortunately, nobody else was showing a flicker of interest in what she was saying.

    About the Author:
    A. T. Grant is married with two children and lives outside Bath in England. He is a Geography teacher at a state secondary school in Thornbury, north of Bristol. He was inspired to write by completing his Ph.D., which explored young people's relationship with the natural world. As a keen traveller, he also found that regular month-long expeditions to remote locations provided ideal material for his writing. He has written two other novels to date entitled “The Jaguar” (2015) and “Leopard Skies” (2016).
