  • (1888PressRelease) February 18, 2013 - Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria Angel Kalinov said, "The Bulgarian National Day falls on March 3 and the exhibition at Corp Executive Hotel Apartments in Al Barsha is part of the many exciting activities planned to celebrate the National Day. It is unique in every way as children between the age of 5 and 10 years from Bulgarian School in Dubai, Bulgarche come together to pay homage to their motherland for a noble cause under 'Children Create and Donate for Children' campaign.

Mr Aamir Pervez, General Manager, Corp Executive Hotel Apartments, Al Barsha, said, "We are truly proud to host this amazing event and are very excited to showcase the rich crafts and traditions of Bulgaria at our hotel. It is wonderful to see children as young as these contributing to the welfare of others through their creativity."

On the day guests will be welcomed in traditional Bulgarian style with bread, salt and honey and will be later treated to an array of home-cooked Bulgarian delights. They will also receive cute little Martenitsa dolls and other small souvenirs from Bulgaria.

Among other items, the exhibits will include traditional masks, rugs and martenitsa dolls - all handmade by children. Proceeds from the sale of items will be donated to UNICEF. Dressed in their traditional costumes, children will also perform folk dance and songs with their parents. Leading them will be 14-year-old star singer Monika Azmanska, winner of many prestigious international awards. The highly talented young artiste has been performing Bulgarian folkloric songs across four continents and has already released two popular music albums.

Mrs Eliza Kalinova, who is the real architect of the event, explained, "There will a lot on offer including a special demonstration on the creation of Martenitsa. According to Bulgarian folklore, March marks the beginning of springtime and during the first few days of the month, Bulgarians exchange and wear the Martenitsa dolls. The red and white threads of the woven dolls symbolize the wish for good health. While the white symbolizes the purity of the melting white snow, the red symbolizes the setting of the sun which becomes more and more intense as spring progresses. Similarly, the custom of Mummers or Kukers in Bulgaria dates back to thousands of years. During spring they wear scary masks and dance in the streets to banish the evil forces and the cold".

A big highlight of the event will be live painting by internationally acclaimed Bulgarian artist based in Dubai Kamen Bonev. Born in Varna Bulgaria in 1978, Kamen studied art at College of Art and Design 'Veselin Stoinanov' - Ruse, Bulgaria before joining the University of the Fine Arts in Veliko Turnovo. Over the years he has participated in a number of national and international exhibitions and has won numerous recognitions and awards for his outstanding works including top award from 'Veliko Turnovo by the Patron Dr Rumen Rashev. He said, "It is a moment of great pride for all of us and I feel truly privileged to be part of this event on the occasion of our National Day. I will be painting something different and prefer to keep it a surprise. The painting will be auctioned on the day and proceeds will be donated to UNICEF.
