  • (1888PressRelease) April 13, 2017 - Originally introduced in November for a three month period, the free tourist visa scheme waives the normal Bt1,000 fee for a visa valid for a stay of up to 30 days while the Bt2,000 fee for a 15-day Visa on Arrival (VoA) is halved to Bt1,000.

The six month extension for the visa incentives applies from 1 March to 31 August 2017.

The free tourist visa scheme and Visa On Arrival fee reduction are available to passport holders from Andorra, Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.

"This is an effort to attract more visitors to Thailand in the low season particularly, as the kingdom aims for a 2017 target of 35 million foreign arrivals", said a BSA Law spokesman.

In 2016 Thailand attracted 32,588,303 international visitors, an 8.9% increase on the 29,923,185 arrivals seen in 2015.

"Also interesting is the recent confirmation by the Thai tourism and sports minister of an E-visa pilot project later this year. If this trial run goes well then Thailand could be offering an online Thai visa service by the end of 2018", added the spokesman.
