  • Orlando, FL (1888PressRelease) February 01, 2016 - Remington College is kicking off its 3 Lives blood drive campaign for 2016, after another successful effort in 2015.

The goal of the 3 Lives campaign is to increase the number of minority blood donors, and it is done in partnership with the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America and America's Blood Centers.

According to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, African American donors provide blood with unique antigens that are vital for people with sickle cell disease and other blood disorders. Sickle cell disease affects more than 70,000 people in the U.S.

Across the U.S. the need for blood is high - someone needs blood every two seconds - but only about 5% of eligible donors regularly donate blood, and minority donors are in very high demand.

Last year, Remington College collected 863 pints of blood at its campus blood drives. That pushes the total number of pints of blood collected to more than 13,000 since the inception of the 3 Lives program. And since one pint of blood can save three lives, that's enough blood to save more than 39,000 lives.

Each Remington College campus holds multiple 3 Lives blood drives each year. All the blood collected goes to local hospitals and medical centers in the communities where the drives are held.
