  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) June 28, 2016 - PetSmart has joined with Family Promise locations across the nation to house dogs and cats of families experiencing homelessness.

The company began working with Family Promise almost four years ago and now shelters pets for program guests of Family Promise of Greater Denver. Family Promise provides emergency shelter, meals and supportive services to families facing a housing crisis, helping them move into a home of their own. And PetSmart cares for each family's pets while the family is in the shelter program.

"This is an exciting venture between for-profit and non-profit organizations for the greater good," said Allie Card, executive director of Family Promise of Greater Denver. "Without PetSmart, there would be nowhere for these dogs and cats to go. They're part of the family, and this crucial partnership ensures our furry friends stay safe and happy until their other family members move into stable housing."

PetSmart is working with multiple Family Promise locations across the nation, sheltering pets in their local PetsHotels. Each location feeds them, organizes play times and cares for their health needs.

"(The Program) not only makes us feel good, but it makes the families feel good," said Jason Sands, an associate at the Littleton PetSmart that partners with the Denver-area Family Promise. "It puts their mind somewhat at ease because they know their pet is being take care of, and they can focus on finding a new home."
