April 10, 2009 - Did you know there was a shoe charity that is making a huge difference in the life of many school aged children? Did you know that over 38% of 4th graders in the state of Texas are overweight? On May 2, 2009 Shoes 4 School, a local shoe charity, will touch the souls/soles of many local children by providing them with a new pair of shoes at their "Walk A Mile In My Shoes" Walk A Thon held at Sugar Land's Oyster Creek Park. Shoes4School knows the economy is tight for many parents that is why the first 300 children to register to walk will receive a new pair of shoes if they're In Need of them. From 8:00am until 12:00 noon the entire family can enjoy a host of activities prizes and trophies for all ages.
Entertainment provided by Houston's Own teen phenomenon J. Xavier. Emcee is Sugar Land's City Council Woman Jacqueline Baly Chaumette. The purpose of the walkathon is to donate shoes to our KIN (Kids In Need) and to bring awareness to childhood obesity and the benefits of being active.
Today's youth are faced with many alluring temptations from the Video industry and there is an urgent need for healthy and constructive activates, says Executive Director Leola Anifowoshe who is a mother of 6 children and is currently competing in the Texas Roundup family fitness category with her entire family. The Texas Roundup is a fitness program started years ago as a result of Texas' Governor Rick Perry to help Texans become more fit.
Shoe 4 School is dedicated to its mission of Reaching Children Changing Lives One Pair at A Time TM. The organization endures to ensure that every child has a new pair of shoes and adequate school supplies and that no child is left behind. A Hole is the Sole can leave a Hole in The Soul TM
