Home for homeless veterans to receive a makeover from Home Depot

  • (1888PressRelease) March 20, 2014 - SAN MARCOS, CA - Fan of the Feather, Inc. is thrilled to share some BIG NEWS! 30 Home Depot volunteers will gather at 3562 Grand Ave, San Marcos, CA, on April 7th thru April 9th to transform the house and improve the lives of the Program Participants.

    Fan of the Feather. Inc. was founded in November 2009 to offer assistance to homeless veterans. In February 2012, a transitional home, The Promised Land, opened its doors. "We are the first to provide transitional housing for homeless veterans in San Marcos, CA, and are thankful to have been given this opportunity to serve our local community," said Vanessa Wood, Fan of the Feather Co-founder and CEO. Many community supporters including: The McCarthy Family Foundation, Grocery Outlet, Sprouts, Cal State University San Marcos, Super Green Solutions, San Marcos Community Foundation, The San Marcos Lutheran Church, Boy Scouts of America, and The Rock Church have blessed Fan of the Feather with generous donations and contributions. To have The Home Depot Foundation extend their hand to America's veterans, in such a meaningful way, is a great boost to the organization and the Program Participants.

    Fan of the Feather, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) transitional center for homeless veterans. The organization was founded in 2009 by Navy veterans Lawrence A Wood MD and his wife, Vanessa D Wood RN. The mission of Fan of the Feather is to provide a safe and caring environment for homeless veterans in San Diego County, while assisting them in returning to independent living. This will be accomplished through providing services such as counseling, substance abuse prevention, work skills development and veteran crisis intervention.
