Shingle Recycling Company offers recycling of transferred and direct haul items, providing contractors and roofers decreased tips rates and green practices.
(1888PressRelease) May 25, 2010 - SHAKOPEE, Minn. - Dem-Con Companies, an innovator in construction and demolition recycling and one of the top shingle recycling companies, announced that its shingle processing yard is open to contractors and roofers, offering an environmentally favorable option for disposal of asphalt shingles and other recyclable materials. Construction and demolition recycling is a sensible option for reducing landfill waste and promoting stewardship of the environment.
"We believe that an integrated solid waste management system and sustainable environmental practices are integral to the future of the industry," said Chris Guillemette, vice president, business development, Dem-Con Companies. "By opening our shingle yard, we deliver options for contractors and developers to recycle and recover materials they wish to discard, while offering the value-added benefits of reduced tip rates and LEED credits."
The Shakopee Shingle Processing Yard opened in early May 2010. The new service adds value to participating contractors and roofers who can promote green business practice as part of their operations. Asphalt shingles brought to the yard will be recycled and used in roadways as a cost-effective substitute for virgin oil. The Dem-Con Shingle Recycling Program requires participants to sign a supplier specification form. As an additional incentive, contractors will see decreased tip rates if they meet Dem-Con specifications.
The following are the specifications for delivery and materials that may be included in the load to be processed:
• Acceptable items: asphalt shingles, incidental bundle wrappers (paper or plastic), incidental cardboard boxes, incidental cans and bottles, tar paper
• Non-acceptable items: C&D debris, wood, windows, dirt, MSW, cedar shakes, flat roofing, landscaping debris, rock, stone, metal, valley tin, roof vents, cardboard
• Acceptable items: asphalt shingles, bundle wrappers (paper or plastic), cardboard boxes, incidental cans and bottles, tar paper, roof vents, eave and valley tin, metal, pallets
• Non-acceptable items: C&D debris, wood, windows, dirt, MSW, cedar shakes, flat roofing, landscaping debris, rock, stone
Dem-Con Shingle Processing is a company developed to recover shingles resulting from the manufacturing process as well as tear-off shingles from homes. Tens of thousands of tons are currently buried in landfills each year and Dem-Con shingle recycling is working to recover and provide alternative uses for this material to reduce reliance on virgin asphalt. Dem-Con works with many government and other organizations to develop equipment, specifications and end-use options for this material. The company, which will recycle more than 25,000 tons of shingles in 2010, offers local and mobile shingle grinding services.
