World Civic Orchestra Brings Electricity to Alice Tully Hall, NYC Sunday, Sept. 25th

World class talent and a vision of making a positive difference in the world through music unites the musicians of the World Civic Orchestra (WCO). This week they will be preparing for their Alice Tully Hall Concert featuring young world-class violinists, Pei-Wen liao, on classical violin and Antonio Pontarelli on electric violin in an exciting repertoire. The one thing people can universally agree on is the healing power of music and the World Civic Orchestra calls upon ordinary citizens to rally together behind this mission.

The WCO was created in order to use music as the fundamental tool in bridging some of the world's differences. Music can help us connect with that which unifies us by highlighting the similarities that are at the core of every race, religion, and culture. Each musician in the WCO comes together from around the world to celebrate and fully carry out the mission of the orchestra.

What makes the WCO stand out amongst other orchestras is their great attention to humanitarian efforts. The WCO raised money for the recent tragedy in Japan and spread a worldwide message of hope and recovery on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. To accurately reflect the sentiments of our world today, the programming for the concert has been specifically chosen. Each piece, as Music Director Vincent Koh describes "truly epitomizes our goals at the WCO."

The orchestra will be playing a diverse repertoire featuring "A Lincoln Portrait" by Aaron Copland, "Scottish Fantasy for Violin & Orchestra" by Max Bruch, and "The Moon Over the Ruined Castle" by WCO conductor Vincent Koh. In addition, the WCO will be featuring the fiery world renowned electric rock violinist, Antonio Pontarelli, in their performance of "I'd Love to Change the World, originally by Ten Years After and arranged by John Reed for the Hampton String Quartet. To conclude the program, the orchestra will perform Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony, showcasing the virtuosity of soloist Pei-Wen Liao, winner of numerous international competitions on violin.
