  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) January 18, 2010 - The Winchester Mystery House is pleased to announce the launch of its new and improved web site, WinchesterMysteryHouse.com, on January 18, 2010. The upgraded and updated site is the result of one year of analysis, design, and programming. Winchester Mystery House collaborated with the production team of Imagination Design Works (IDW) and the design/web building team of Studio 43 1/2 to provide a more comprehensive source of information for Winchester's label.

"Our goal is to provide our visitors with a virtual experience that is almost as compelling as a visit to the actual historical and haunted landmark," said Brett Tomberlin, President of IDW. Of course, the digital world can never match touring the house itself: surveying its unique architecture - inside sky lights, stairs that mount to ceilings, doors that lead to suicidal drop-offs. Neither can it rival sitting in the mysterious séance room where Sarah Winchester sought help from spirits to guide her vision in building the 161-room estate. Our intention was not to try to replicate these experiences. Rather, we designed the web site to complement and enhance the on-site offerings."

The new Winchester site will immerse internet users in the full 'Winchester' experience as visitors can actively participate by posting paranormal sightings with the new "Spirit Sightings" feature, suggestions on rooms to investigate, predictions and premonitions via message boards and text messaging.

The updated site features an interactive, up-to-date calendar of events where registrants can get automated reminders for private events or special offers. Users can now easily access archival and cross-referenced information from the multimedia section and the most current resources such as 180 image galleries, video libraries and news articles. The upgraded site also enables the online visitors an easy, instant, and secure way to purchase tickets or products from the award-winning House of Winchester shop. Updates on the new feature film, "Winchester", are also available. Numerous surprises are in store for those who join the new "13th Hour" fan club. Bookmarking and social media tags are embedded throughout the site so that visitors can share Winchester Mystery House news and information with others on Facebook, Twitter, and Del.icio.us.

"In addition to the site's many new technical features, the graphic design and interface present a dramatic improvement. We have streamlined the site's navigation, making it more intuitive and user-friendly. We also created a visual navigation system for the many visitors who simply want to browse around the site without a specific destination. We think this dual presentation will allow our "power users" the ease and efficiency of rapidly getting to their resources while simultaneously inviting millions of new users to learn more about the built environment. Now they can casually browse through the learn, explore, visit and shop sections," said Tomberlin.

The website will go live on January 15, 2010 and remain in beta, or testing, stages until February. This marks IDW's third big announcement since the company launched its first feature film, Winchester, in November of last year.
