  • (1888PressRelease) August 18, 2012 - An incredible Everglades adventure is offered for women for the first time by the award winning "Ladies, Let's Go Fishing!®" University Series. The Everglades Adventure University is Oct. 13-14, 2012 at Port of the Islands Everglades Resort, with optional Everglades excursions offered on Friday, Oct. 12.

"This is a great 'out-there' fishing adventure, where women can learn and go fishing in an amazing area they might not visit on their own," commented Founder, Betty Bauman. The organization polled its 7,000 graduates for input, who voted to fish the pristine 10,000 islands, an area known for birds and wildlife viewing as well as world-renowned fishing.

This event differs from the traditional LLGF events. In response to the surge in popularity, kayak fishing has been added. The Friday reception has been moved to Saturday night, replaced by Friday optional swamp buggy rides, airboat tours, sunset cruise and an Everglades City dinner. A room-share program is offered for those coming solo.

For this event, held in conjunction with support from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) through the Sport Fish Restoration Program, women will travel from several states for an exciting weekend of education, hands-on fishing activities, habitat conservation and to meet other female anglers. FWC will educate University participants on the importance of marine conservation and demonstrate hook removal, release techniques and more. The University provides an opportunity for the ladies to use their newly-acquired skills to fish inshore or nearby offshore on their choice of a group boat, back country boat or kayak fishing. The age for participants includes teen females age 16 and up when accompanied by an adult female.

The Award-winning "No-Yelling School of Fishing" Curriculum
Friday, Oct. 12: Optional swamp buggy rides, airboat tours, sunset cruise and dinner in Everglades City.
Saturday Oct. 13: Classroom presentations on back country/inshore, offshore, bottom, fly and the newly-added kayak fishing, followed by lunch and hands-on fishing skills until 4:30 pm. Named speakers are Heather Sneed /FWC and Captains Kevin Merritt, Jon Fetter, Will Geraghty, Roan Zumfelde, Rick Karnes and a kayak instructor TBA. Skills such as releasing, conservation, knot tying, bait rigging, spin and net casting, gaffing grapefruits, trailer backing, boat handling, fish fighting techniques and more will be available for hands-on practice. Events conclude with a networking party and silent auction.

Sunday, Oct. 14: Ladies embark on their chosen Fishing Adventure from boats or kayaks (optional/additional) out of Everglades City, followed by fish filleting.

Featured on national network television and more, the University series is also supported by major partners Mercury Outboards, Ranger Boats, Silver Airways, Fishhound.com, Minn Kota, Humminbird and Magic Tilt Trailers. Those and other supporters are recognized on www.ladiesletsgofishing.com.

The mission of LLGF is to increase the numbers of responsible anglers. According to a recent report by the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, "For the first time in several years, fishing has gained more participants than it lost - largely due to women taking up the sport."

University registration starts at only $89 and includes instruction, use of equipment, hands-on training, networking reception and fundraisers, certain meals, goody bags and more. Fishing adventure fees are on www.ladiesletsgofishing.com.

Port of the Islands Everglades Adventure Resort is at 25000 Tamiami Trail East, Naples, FL 34114. Fishing is out of Everglades City for close access to the fishing grounds.
