18 - 35-year-olds of African American/ Black descent are urged to join Gift of Life Marrow Registry.
(1888PressRelease) April 29, 2026 - Brothers Ace Franklin, 6 and King DeLee, 12 are battling a rare blood disorder and both urgently need to find a stem cell or marrow donor in order to survive. With the help of Gift of Life Marrow Registry, their family is actively recruiting volunteers to join the registry and potentially give them a second chance at life.
Neither Ace, who enjoys playing Roblox and basketball or King, who loves gaming and playing football, have a matching donor in their family, so they are turning to the community for support. They are of African American/Black descent and their best chance of finding a donor is with someone of similar ancestry. Anyone 18 to 35 years old and in general good health can join the registry with a simple cheek swab.
“Only 29% of African American/Black patients are able to find a match due to a lack of diverse donors in the registry, and for mixed race people, it’s even harder,” said Gift of Life Donor Recruitment Director Chris Camacho. “We urgently need people with similar ancestry to register as donors to help change this inequity.”
Those interested in joining the Gift of Life registry may request a swab kit to be delivered at home by visiting www.giftoflife.org/aceandking. To hold a donor recruitment drive at your school, center of worship or in your community, email ccamacho ( @ ) giftoflife dot org dot Ace and King’s donor search may also be supported through contributions to their fundraising Donor Circle campaign dot Every gift to this circle helps Gift of Life add new donors to the registry and goes directly toward testing swab kits to find matches for them and other patients dot
