As the players came onto the field to give autographs, most of the children, including D'Asti's three children, immediately headed for the NFL players. D'Asti leaned over to explain to them that the true heroes were the wounded warriors who had given so much for their country and had asked nothing in return. The boys got it. They turned to wounded warriors and began asking for autographs from the true heroes.

While D'Asti's back was turned, a commotion started behind him. Turning around, he saw a group of reporters and photographers focusing on his son Vincenzo and BJ Ganem, one of the wounded warrior football players, as Vincenzo peppered BJ with the kind of questions any five year old would ask: "How did you lose your leg?" "What does it feel like?" "Can I see it?" Of course, BJ graciously answered all of Vincenzo's questions about his prosthetic leg, even taking it off to show Vincenzo. D'Asti found himself fighting back the tears. He was so touched by Ganem's graciousness, proud of his son and thankful for the men and women that serve our country every day.

D'Asti recounted, "At this point, it really dawned on me that this was not just a football game, it was an awakening. It was hard to hold back my emotions as I explained to my children that men like BJ, without question or hesitation, put their lives on the line for people like us that they will never meet. And, that in our lifetimes, we could never repay these brave heroes for the sacrifices that they have made. Watching these guys be so proud and not miss a beat, I will never look at our military or any first responder the same.
