The October 31st beginning to the show is appropriate considering the content of the show.

    Based on the zombie comic book series by Robert Kirkman, the new AMC series will be centered around the lives of a troubled group of survivalists trying to make it in a world filled only with zombies and the ruins of what was once the world as they knew it. The names of all the actors playing each character in the show have been released as well. Andrew Lincoln will be starring in the show as Rick Grimes, a police officer and the leader of the zombie resistance. His partner Shane, played by Jon Bernthal, also plays a central role in the show. Other actors who will be on the show include Laurie Holden, Chandler Riggs, Michael Rooker, and Jeffrey DeMunn.

    AMC's new zombie thriller series is going to have six episodes in the first season. The pilot episode is going to be exactly ninety minutes long, serving up a longer-than-usual premier to fans as well as those who are new to the series. One of the most anticipated aspects of the show is the realistic makeup and special effects which will be done by Greg Nicotero as well as a few others who are experienced at doing this type of work for movies and television shows.

    In August of 2009 AMC announced to the public that it had officially obtained the right to the comic and planned to make a television adaption. Writer Robert Kirkman supports the project completely, working closely with those who are responsible for developing the TV series. In January of 2010 it was officially announced that a pilot episode for the show was to be written and filmed, prompting a very excited and anxious response from fans of the comic series. Director Frank Darabont says that he expects the show to be a success because of the social elements the show brings, offering viewers more than just gore and violence.

    The Walking Dead is planned to be a short television series which is being called a mix of horror and drama with human relations thrown into the mix. Charles H. Eglee will assume the responsibilities of execute producer as well as being a writer on the show. Those who are involved with the project state that they plan on following the overall plot of the comic series while taking some artistic liberties of their own. The Walking Dead comic which the show is based on was first released in 1989 and was only 4 issues long. It has now gone through 13 volumes and is a massive success. The television adaption is expected to reach viewers and keep them hooked in the same manner as the comic series by Robert Kirkman.
