  • Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) June 11, 2007 - Get ready to pay more for that transportation to the airport! The Tampa Airport which services the Central West Coast Of Florida is getting ready to levy permitting fees upon the limousine services that the traveling consumers rely upon to get to this regional interstate transportation hub.

Due the explosive growth of outlying counties, TIA has seen enough of an increase in airport transportation services to make it worthwhile to start imposing fees on the limousines which will in turn be placed upon the traveling consumer's back with TIA citing fairness to the Tampa Taxi Cartel who pay fees to be physically based at the airport and in want of the increased long distance transfers going out-of-county.

Walter Kozak , owner of Gunny's Intrastate Travel & Tours in Spring Hill and President of The Florida Intrastate Transportation Alliance is mounting a public campaign to make the citizens reliant upon nonpublic forms of transportation into Tampa aware that TIA is getting ready to pick their pockets.

Says Kozak, "first we have the Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission regulating travelers to expensive luxury vehicles and prohibiting use of moderate priced ones to protect the Tampa Taxicabs.

Now we have TIA sticking it to the travelers of which whom the majority are senior citizens on fixed incomes flying out of Tampa to visit relatives and friends in other States. For the 70 year old widow with an artificial hip residing in Citrus County or the 90 year old blind man in Spring Hill, nonpublic transportation is a necessity not a luxury that TIA should attack as a cash cow."

FITA's Official Stance Is: Whereas The State Has Failed To Provide Adequate Public Transportation, It Has An Obligation To Create An Environment For Nonpublic Sector Passenger Motor Carriers Free From Abusive Economic Regulatory Controls. The Ability For The Citizen To Travel About The State Should Not Be Depedent Upon Finding A Motor Carrier With The Appropriate Jurisdictional Sticker On The Windshield.

Continues Kozak, "The State of Florida has failed to provide adequate public transit services to the interstate hubs and allowed the holders of these hubs to regulate to death the only means available to the citizens. The privately owned and operated nonpublic sector transportation services which provides a variety of transportation options based on the needs of the traveler."

"Unfortunately" continues Kozak, "the Tampa Airport Board is made up of Hillsborough Representatives and there are no voices speaking for the residents of the numerous counties using this interstate hub. The only voices these Hillsborough Commissioners care to hear from are the ones that can vote them into office and as such, the only other alternative is to take the Airport to Federal Court and that most definately looks like the direction this will be moving in.
